Pyxis’ Workforce Development services (with the exception of WIA services) are made available through a referral from the Sedgwick County Social Rehabilltative Services office.  Contact the SRS office at 316.337.7000 or visit them at 230 E. William, Wichita, KS 67201.

Behavioral Health

We have dedicated and caring staff which include licensed mental health professionals. Our focus is to preserve, promote and support links to the participant’s family, school, and community with unique and innovative elements to services.

We provide a variety of community-based mental health services in Wichita, Kansas including Psychosocial Rehabilitation (Group and Individual), Attendant Care, and Respite Care.

Psychosocial Rehabilitation Services
Psychosocial Rehabilitation treatment is a service designed to provide the youth in ages ranging from 5 to 18 with the opportunity to develop into an independent adult who functions successfully in the community. These services are provided with a focus on reducing functional impairments related to the youth’s mental health diagnosis. We utilize activities to assist the youth in achieving their treatment plan goals in areas such as improvement of socialization, anger management and improving peer relationships. In the community, group and individual participants are presented with many opportunities for fun and effective learning.  Their journey of personal growth and development often includes an array of adventures in shopping, eating out, visiting the zoo, area museums and parks, bowling and attending various sporting and performance arts events. 

Individual Psychosocial Rehabilitation empowers youth with skill development activities in schools and in a large variety of community settings.  The participant is provided with highly individualized, one on one care designed specifically to help them achieve successful outcomes in their treatment plan.

Psychosocial Rehabilitation Groups provide youth fun and educational learning experiences which are tailored appropriately for specific ages, individualized service needs and location.  Youth have opportunities to receive incentives and rewards for personal behavior success and goal achievement

Attendant Care
Attendant Care is a one on one service primarily focused on delivering the medically necessary maintenance and support to the child.  We strive to give the SED youth the encouragement and hope needed to successfully manage challenges and stress in their lives. This focused treatment may include improvement of socialization, anger management and improvement of peer relationships among other issues. We work with individual children and youth assisting them to reach their treatment goals.  When opportunities arise we help youth develop social skills, daily living skills, leisure time training and independent living skills.

Respite Care
Respite Care is a community-based service that is designed to provide a temporary, planned rest from the responsibility of care giving, and a day of structured activities for children.   Respite Care incorporates a wide range of structured group recreation and leisure activities, including opportunities for social interaction, teamwork, creativity, skills acquisition, exercise, and play in a safe and supervised environment.

Workforce Development  

Pyxis is committed to contributing to local economic development by cultivating a well-trained workforce through services to at-risk youth and adults.  One of the goals of the service is to ensure that employers have access to a skilled talent pool to meet their workforce needs.  Pyxis excels at developing community partners who provide opportunities for job seekers to train and be placed in competitive employment.

Individuals referred to Pyxis employment services are assessed for employability skills and provided training for employment opportunities in industry sectors with growing demand.  Ideally, this will lead to placement of these individuals in self-sufficient employment.  Follow-up services are provided to increase retention of employment.

Workforce Investment Act (WIA)
As an experienced provider and operator of WIA youth programs, Pyxis partners with local Workforce Investment Boards to provide innovative programming to WIA eligible youth.  Pyxis has proven experience in the successful delivery of all 10 required elements, and excels in the development of community partners, collaboration, and community resources.   

Economic Employment Services (EES)
EES serves welfare-to-work (TANF/TAF) participants with community service and work experience designed to develop pro-social skills and overcome barriers to employment. This service features a highly structured, comprehensive and individualized placement system, job prep training, job skills development, case management and follow-up. PowerEdge™ can be included in EES services.

PowerEdge™ is an innovative, effective training curriculum designed to help individuals develop successful life and employment skills.  Interactive presentations offer interesting layered-learning. Participants are inspired to grow personally and professionally through gaining knowledge of personal value, positive attitude, positive and effective communication, goal setting, problem solving, community resources, customer service, a systematic approach to the job search including career assessment, and how to be a successful employee

Job Placement
Job Placement is a service designed to provide direct job development and involvement of Pyxis staff in placing participants at integrated, competitive employment.  Activities include identification and development of potential employers consistent with the participant’s vocational plan, assistance in helping participants effectively apply for specific jobs, preparation for interviewing, analysis of transportation options, and support to address issues that might affect the permanency of the placement.

Job Retention
Job Retention is a time-limited service that provides systematic, planned follow-up to ensure the participant’s short-term orientation to the requirements of their job.  Job retention also includes supports to address issues, problems, and barriers that might affect the participant’s ability to maintain permanent employment.
